I still need to trim the ends, sand the whole thing and secure it to the island frame. O and the cabinet doors. Ok I guess I'm not really almost done.  And I still have to cover up the post and beam.  Damn not even close to being done.

Put some paint on those four-by beams and call it macaroni for a season. Or several seasons. But oil that hardwood countertop though, so some ding dong doesn’t set a sweating beer bottle on it and make a ring.

yea, i’m not 100% sure what to use for an oil. I thought it was to supposed to be mineral oil but i guess thats only for end grain. i saw that mineral oil the way i have it will make the grain swell and feel velvety which i dont want. The posts will eventually get wraped in rough sa wn spruce

It was a wild guess, but one I thought at. Is money.

did you joint it right there in the kitchen or do you have a workshop? I have a workshop, of sorts, and I was back in there again. It’s outdoor, but covered, and it’s been very rainy this winter and it also floods in my space a bit, but only at the rainiest.

There’s a guy on YouTube I correspond with, Paul Jackman, JackmanWorks. He might have a suggestion if you look him up. Guy is my hero, kind of.

I used linseed oil for a while. Finally decided to use epoxy. It works well in the bath room and a kitchen table but it does show scratches. I’m glad you decided to use walnut. It’s my favorite wood. Your top looks great.
